As we age, our skin begins to show signs of wear and tear, especially in the form of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is a safe and non-invasive treatment that has been shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of these signs of aging. That being said, men tend to be more hesitant when it comes to using this treatment. In this post we will discuss some common concerns men may have about Botox and provide insights into why it can be a great anti-aging tool.
1. You won't be frozen - unless you want to be Before the treatment we will discuss what your concerns are and what you are looking to achieve with Botox. Botox doesn't mean no movement or no expression, you can have a natural-looking result that still allows for some movement and expression. 2. The importance of the "glabella complex" What is the glabella complex? It is the area between the eyebrows and just above them, and is responsible for the furrowed brow or "11 lines." Injecting the glabella region along with the forehead prevents your eyebrows from dropping. This is because the muscle of your forehead lifts up, and the muscles of the glabella complex pull down, naturally balancing each other out. If only the forehead is injected, this muscle no longer lifts up allowing for the muscles of the glabella region to pull it down and will result in low-set brows. 3. Men tend to need more Botox than women Men tend to have larger foreheads and stronger, thicker facial muscles. As a result, it may take more units of Botox to soften the muscles of the upper face. 4. Full results take 2 weeks You will start to see some effect in the first 36 hours, but the full effect will take 2 weeks. I always start with a conservative amount and adjust as needed after 2 weeks. 5. Quality skincare for better results Better and longer lasting results start with the health and condition of your skin. Other skincare modalities such as microneedling and a tailored skincare regimen will do this. 6. Botox is a great treatment for sweating If you feel like you have excessive underarm sweating (or you sweat more than you like to) Botox is a great treatment for this. It has been shown to reduce almost 90% of underarm sweating! Botox can be a great tool for men looking to reduce the signs of aging and achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance. In this post, we'll explore some of the most common questions about Botox.
What is Botox? Botox is made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When it is injected into a muscle, it works by paralyzing or relaxing the muscle so that it can't move. How is Botox preventative? Botox is preventative because it stops fine lines and wrinkles from forming by preventing the muscle from contracting. However, it is important to note that there are other factors that can contribute to wrinkles, such as UV light, smoking, and other lifestyle practices. When should someone start getting Botox? For preventative purposes, I'd recommend someone start getting Botox in their mid to late 20's or in their 30's. That being said, it is never too late to start. How long does it last? It depends where Botox is injected. When injected into the three areas of the upper face (forehead, glabella complex, crow's feet) it generally last for 3-4 months, a Lip Flip lasts about 6-8 weeks, masseters (jaw slimming) lasts about 4-9 months, and hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) lasts 6-12 months. When should I see results? You should start seeing results as early as 3 days and full results take 2 weeks. How long does the procedure take? The procedure itself is very quick, minutes.
