How does microneedling with SkinPen work?
SkinPen is a versatile microneedling device that uses surgical-grade stainless steel needles to produce controlled micro-injuries across the surface of the skin, thus bolstering and stimulating the body’s process of natural healing. The SkinPen process yields healthy collagen and elastin and produces a healthier, smoother and fuller, or less gaunt looking, complexion. As a minimally invasive treatment, it also requires very little downtime and is a very effective option for treating the most common signs of aging on the skin as well as acne scars.

"My skin is GLOWING after microneedling! Already getting compliments on my skin (it's only been a few days)! Can't wait for my next session!"
What is a SkinPen treatment like?
SkinPen is virtually painless, with patients typically experiencing only a mild tingling sensation on their skin, which is generally well-tolerated. Before starting your SkinPen session, I will apply a topical numbing cream to significantly reduce or eliminate any potential discomfort. Each treatment session lasts for approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is customized to address the specific skin conditions and cosmetic preferences of the individual.
How does SkinPen treat acne scars?
SkinPen Microneedling is FDA approved specifically for treating acne scars, ensuring both effectiveness and safety. By creating thousands of micro-punctures in the skin, the needles mechanically break up tough scar tissue and activate enzymes that dissolve it. This process promotes tissue remodeling and regeneration, stimulating collagen and elastin production while reducing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and discoloration associated with scars.

"I've had acne scars on my forehead since I was a teen and after three SkinPen sessions, they are totally gone! I saw results after our first treatment, but exciting to see them fade more and more after each session. Thank you so much!"
How many SkinPen sessions will I need?
While you'll begin to see results after your first session, I recommend starting with 3 treatments spaced out by 4 weeks. The number of sessions thereafter are individualized and depend on your unique skin health and needs - as frequent as once a month, once a season, twice a year, or once a year. We'll work together to design the best plan for you.
Does SkinPen help with existing acne?
Recently, a small clinical study was done to determine if microneedling was a safe and effective treatment for acne. This study looked at 2 groups, one group received treatments at 4 week intervals, the other at 2 week intervals. What they found was that there was statistically significant reduction in both infammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions.
How can I enhance my SkinPen treatment?
Combining it with PRP for a Vampire Facial (aka PRP Facial) - a cosmetic procedure that harnesses the power of your body's own blood plasma and platelets to promote cell turnover and collagen synthesis in the skin. By drawing a small blood sample and utilizing a centrifuge to separate plasma and platelets from red blood cells, the PRP is applied topically during microneedling, encouraging natural skin healing and enhanced elastin and collagen production. Does SkinPen help with wrinkles on my chest?
The décolleté (chest and cleavage area) is highly prone to sun damage and aging because it is often neglected to be covered up with clothing (especially during spring & summer months), and is often forgotten when it comes to sunscreen and other anti-aging skincare products. Microneedling is an incredible treatment for this area - stimulating collagen and elastin production, maintaining skin’s smoothness, elasticity, and preventing sagging and wrinkles.

Who is a good candidate for SkinPen?
SkinPen is a safe and efficient option for individuals of all skin types and tones, making it a suitable choice for the majority of my patients. However, individuals with active skin cancer, open wounds, persistent sores, skin irritation, stainless steel allergies, or those who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from undergoing SkinPen treatments.
Is SkinPen safe?
Absolutely! SkinPen boasts FDA approval and is manufactured in the United States. It employs single-use sterile cartridges, completely eliminating any risk of cross-contamination or infection. With its 14 smooth stainless microneedles, SkinPen delivers approximately 16,000 micro-injuries per second, rendering it one of the most powerful microneedling treatments accessible. Backed by 90 different clinical tests, SkinPen has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness, and it stands as the sole microneedling device proven to be suitable for all skin types.
What should I expect after a SkinPen treatment?
The SkinPen treatment boasts minimal downtime and typically results in only a mild flush of the skin. Most individuals can readily resume their work or social engagements immediately post-treatment. While some patients may experience slight dryness, redness, or tenderness, these effects typically resolve within 24 hours, or at most, 2 to 3 days. If you're concerned about downtime or curious about your recovery timeline, it's advisable to allow a 2-hour window of safety after your initial treatment, which will provide a better gauge for your response to subsequent sessions.
How do I prepare for my SkinPen treatment?
Come to your appointment with a makeup free, freshly cleansed face. Do not use products that contain AHA's, Retinol, or Vitamin A for 24 hours prior to your procedure. Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to your procedure. For men, avoid shaving your face the day of the procedure as this could cause irritation and inflammation. Instead, plan to shave your face a day or two before your appointment.
